I'd like to start by covering the basics about mental health and self-care, and why they are essential to living a joyful and thriving life. Let's start from the beginning, shall we?
When you hear the words self-care, you might picture bubble baths or a pedicure. While those are certainly great ways to show yourself some love, it goes much deeper than that. Our daily habits and lifestyle play a huge role in our mental wellbeing.
First things first. What is mental health and why is it important?
Mental health refers to your emotional and psychological wellbeing. It affects how you think, feel, and act in everyday life. Every living, breathing human has a mental state. Unfortunately, a lot of us were not informed about the importance of mental health or or how to care for it. The state of your mental health directly affects how you see the world, handle stress, relate to others, make decisions, and achieve your goals. Good mental health is the foundation for living a satisfying life.
What is self care and why is it important?
Self-care is the practice of protecting your mental health and well-being. Being aware of this and taking intentional steps to care for yourself will only improve your quality of life. This can lead to better self-esteem, increased resilience, reduced stress, more confidence, enhanced coping skills, and healthier relationships with yourself and others - ultimately achieving balance in all areas of your life.
It's important to know that self-care is NOT selfish. This journey will look different for everyone. It takes some trial and error to find what works best for you. I'll be going over this in more detail very soon. Stay tuned for ideas on how to make lasting improvements in your life.
